Heat wave in Holland
Project info:
In journalism an active debate is going on on the use of overly cheerful imagery in reporting on climate change. Newsrooms and picture desks seem to prefer happy images in reports and articles on heat waves, like people eating ice creams, swimming and cooling down in pools.
As a reaction to these images and to contribute to the debate, I made a photo reportage on climate mitigation: the methods people use to defend against the heat. Commissioned by the Research Group Designing Journalism, which is conducting research into the effect of climate imagery.
