Prejudice, intimidation, violence, it’s part of their daily job in Mexico, Venezuela and El Salvador. This long scroll honours these young professional photographers and video reporters.

Project info: A TV studio, a dozen of volunteers, a letter and one question. Those were the ingredients of a social experiment done by RNW Media. The experiment brought wondering, silence, misunderstanding and a bit of sweat.
I created social media video’s for the new global campaign of RNW’s Love Matters project. The campaign, with the hashtag #StepIntoOurShoes, promotes access to safe and legal abortion. The project was setup in collaboration with Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) and Advocates for Youth.

Project info: Video introduction of 8 LGBT activists from various parts of the world who are contributing to RNW’s advocacy activities during Amsterdam Gay Pride 2014. These short video animations are made with locally produced photo material. By applying a color grading to the imagery, a consistent look and feel is created.

Project info: In order to show national and international stakeholders the relevancy and added value of RNW Media, the organisation launched a new website. This ‘flagship site’ showcases the most impactful stories from RNW’s regional desks. Other pages display the countries where RNW media is active, which themes and projects it focuses on and trigger visitors to get involved with the organisation. I have been involved in the web and interaction design and consultancy, produced photos for the site and was responsible for image editing

Project info: How do you surf? That’s the question RNW put to young people from Cuba to China, Nigeria to South Sudan. RNWs interactive photo series ‘How I Surf’ portrays young netizens in their natural surfing habitat. The goal of the project was to allow RNW’s young target groups to allow for comparison between the issues they encounter when surfing the web in their countries, like blockades, low bandwith and censorship.
But ‘How I Surf’ also reveals how the web helps them in their daily lives, the stuff they buy online and the social media channels they prefer. It makes use of the interactive photo app ‘ThingLink’.
